2025 Spring Tennis Lessons

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation, and USTA Certified Pro tennis instructor Tony Labonte are pleased to present Spring Tennis Lessons. Youth and Adult sessions will be offered.

  • Who: Ages 5 and up. Youth and adult classes designated by age range.
  • What: Spring tennis lessons with games, contests and prizes! Classes will run for six (6) weeks. The classes are designated by age range. Click here to view program flyer detailing class times for various age groups. Loaner racquets provided.

    • Tuesday classes will meet at Memorial Park (2600 South Wood Avenue) on May 6, 13, 20, 27, June 3 and 10.
    • Saturday classes will meet at Wilson Park (1113 Summit Terrace) on May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 and June 7.
  • How: Youth Session is $85. Adult Session is $95. Additional $10 fee for non-residents. Loaner racquets provided. To view full program description and register online, click here. STEM Program – App Makers

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer a nine-week STEM program – App Makers: connect and share! Hosted by Little Ivy Academy.

  • Who: For third through fifth graders.
  • What: STEM Program hosted by Little Ivy Academy – App Makers: connect and share! The STEM Program is created for elementary school graders of all skill levels! Through this program, your child will get hands-on opportunities to develop their programming skills as they design and code their functional smartphone apps to share with family and friends!
  • Where: Linden Multi-Purpose Center, which is located at 1025 John Street.
  • When: Fridays, March 14 through May 9, from 4pm until 5pm.

2025 Tennis Clinic

  • When: Saturday, April 19 and April 26.
    • Youth (ages 5 through 15) from 11am until 12pm.
    • Adults from 12pm until 1pm.
  • Where: Wilson Park Tennis Courts, located at 1100-1198 Summit Terrace.

Black History Month Celebration

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Linden Cultural & Heritage Committee are pleased to invite the Linden community to join us in recognizing the accomplishments of African Americans in the City of Linden.

  • Who: Linden community (children and adults).
  • What: Black History Month Celebration. We invite our Linden community to join us in recognizing the accomplishments of African Americans in the city of Linden. There will be food, fun, music, dancing, theatrical performances, vendors, activities for kids and door prizes.
  • Where: Linden Multi Purpose Center, which is located at 1025 John Street.
  • When: Friday, February 21 from 5:30pm until 8:30pm.

The Linden Recreation Dance Program

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the Linden Recreation Dance Program, directed by Coach Fonda. Unleash your moves!

  • Who: Ages 4 through 18.
  • What: Dance classes, directed by Coach Fonda. Unleash your moves! Classes include Hip-Hop, Jazz and Ballet.
  • Where: Linden High School, which is located at 121 West St. Georges Avenue.
  • When: March 10, 2025 through June 14, 2025.
    • Mondays
      • Ballet – Ages 4 through 7 from 5pm until 5:45pm.
      • Jazz – Ages 8 through 11 from 5:45pm until 6:30pm.
      • Ballet – Ages 12 through 14 from 6:30pm until 7:15pm.
      • Hip-Hop – Ages 15 through 18 from 7:15pm through 8pm.
    • Wednesdays
      • Hip-Hop – Ages 4 through 7 from 5pm until 5:45pm.
      • Ballet – through 11 from 5:45pm until 6:30pm.
      • Hip-Hop – Ages 12 through 14 from 6:30pm until 7:15pm.
      • Hip-Hop – Ages 15 through 18 from 7:15pm until 8pm.
  • How: Register January 10 through March 10, 2025. Click here to register. Cost is a $50 one-time payment fee, plus a $6 insurance fee.

Youth University – Postponed

  • Who: Children. Must be registered with the Recreation Department.
  • What: A youth program. The purpose of this program is to provide safe constructive environment for students during after school hours. The aim is to extend learning beyond the classroom, promote positive youth development, enhance academic achievement, and keep children engaged in meaningful and productive activities.
  • Where: Wilson Park Recreation Center (1100-1198 Summit Terrace), 8th Ward Building (2100 Bedle Pl), and 7th Ward Building (2907 Tremley Point Rd).
  • When: *This program has been postponed. New dates to be announced.

Winter Wrestling Program

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to announce the Winter Wrestling Program. Our program has produced League and State champions! All skill levels are welcome.

  • Who: For children Kindergarten through Grade 8.
  • What: Instruction on basic wrestling techniques and skills to improve one’s body awareness and overall confidence. All participants must have their own wrestling shoes. All skill levels are welcome.
  • When: Program runs from December 3, 2024 through March 27, 2025. Practice will be held on Monday through Thursday from 6:30pm until 8pm.
    • No practice on days that schools are closed.
  • Where: LHS Athletic Department Building, which is located at 700 West Curtis Street.
  • How: $60 registration fee, plus a $6 insurance fee. All participants must have their own wrestling shoes. Register online here, or register in-person at the John T. Gregorio Center (330 Helen Street) from 9am until 4pm, or at the Linden Multi Purpose Center (1025 John Street) from 9:30am until 7:30pm. All locations accept checks, money orders, Visa and Mastercard. No cash. No refunds once the session begins. For more information, call (908) 474-8600. Please note, all new “First Time” participants must bring the following original documents at the time of registration and we will make copies:
    • Child’s original birth certificate.
    • Household bill showing proof of residency.
    • Diver’s License or photo ID of parent/guardian signing up their child.

New Jersey Devils vs Vegas Golden Knights Game

Parks Open Space Conservation Master Plan Public Meetings – 4th Ward Rescheduled

The 4th Ward – Parks Open Space Conservation Master Plan – public meeting has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 19, 2024.

  • What: Parks Open Space Conservation Master Plan. The City of Linden invites you, our community, to come out and share your ideas on how the City can improve and conserve its 37 parks and 258 acres of open space for residents to enjoy for years to come. Ward residents of the scheduled meetings are encouraged to attend. During the months of November and December, we will host public meetings to discuss your ward parks and open spaces. A municipal wide Park Master Plan creates a road map inclusive of community input for city administrators to follow, when short, mid and long term park improvements plans are discussed. Come and be heard. Additional ward discussion will be scheduled at later dates. Hope to see you there, limited light refreshments will be served.
