Big Brother Program

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the Big Brother Program.

  • Who: Grades 6 through 12.
  • What: Big Brother Program. Big Brother helps children achieve success in school, helps them avoid risky behaviors (e.g. physical altercations, drugs and alcohol, etc.), and helps them improve their self-confidence. Their unique brand of one-to-one mentoring involves matching a child with a caring adult mentor. The support provided by a professional Big Brother staff member can change a child’s life for the better, forever.
  • Where: Linden Multi Purpose Center, which is located at 1025 John Street.
  • When: Fridays, from 5pm until 5:45pm beginning June 21, 2024. Eight (8) week program.

Expressive Movement Dance Class

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the Expressive Movement Dance Class.

  • What: Expressive Movement Dance Class. These classes are designed to show all participants that movement has the power to stir the senses and emotions. It can also convey a message that words alone cannot express. Telling a story through music will offer participants an opportunity to be creative and synchronized while improving strength and flexibility.
  • Where: John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • When: Mondays from 1pm until 2:15pm, on June 10, 17 and 24.

Linden Youth Football Camp

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Linden Youth Football Camp. Join us for Youth Football Skillz and Drillz conducted by our Linden Recreation Staff!

Father’s Day 2-on-2 Basketball Tournament

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation invite you to attend the Father’s Day 2-on-2 Basketball Tournament. In our Father’s day classic, children (in grades 5 through 12) will team up with their fathers/guardians to compete against other families. Come out and have fun!

Substitutions are an option if the parent/guardian has more than one child attending. Refreshments will be served!

Blossoming Bowlers 2

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Blossoming Bowlers 2, in cooperation with the Linden Police Department. Let’s “strike up some fun,” and celebrate family bowling at Jersey Lanes! Registration required.

  • Who: Free bowling outing for all Union County special needs families.
  • What: Blossoming Bowlers 2, Let’s “strike up some fun,” and celebrate family bowling at Jersey Lanes! This program is funded by the NJ Department of Community Affairs ROID Grant (Recreational Opportunities for Individuals with Disabilities). Each participant can bring family members for music, food, and fun. Students that are sensitive to noise, please bring headsets as there will be a DJ present.
  • Where: Jersey Lanes, which is located at 30 Park Avenue.
  • When: Saturday, June 29 from 12pm until 2pm.

2024 Linden Tigers – Summer Baseball Camp

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the 2024 Linden Tigers – Summer Baseball Camp.

  • Who: For boys ages 5 through 14.
  • What: Baseball Camp for boys, with instructors Brandon Czajikowski (LHS Varsity Baseball Head Coach), Frank Hasenauer (LHS Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach) and the Linden High School Varsity Baseball Players.
  • Where: Memorial Field (next to the P.A.L. Fields), which is located at 46 Lower Road.
  • When: 8:30am until 1pm, from July 15 through July 17.
    • Rain date: Thursday, July 18.
  • How: Registration fee is $30 per person. To view full program description and register online, click here. In person registration is available 9am until 4pm at the JTG Center (330 Helen Street), or 9am until 7pm at the Linden Multi-Purpose Center (1025 John Street). Online registration available 24/7. All first time registrants are required to call during business hours to have an account set up. Birth certificate and proof of residency is required if new to our programs.   • What to bring to camp: Water, baseball glove, baseball bat, baseball cleats, hat, lunch, sunscreen, and shorts and towel for the slip-N-slide.

2024 Summer Mini Soccer League

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to announce the 2024 Summer Mini Soccer League. Register early to secure a spot on a team!

  • Who: Open to all children ages 8 through 12.
  • What: Outdoor soccer. All participants must have their own shin guards.
  • Where: Wheeler Park Turf Field, which is located at 234 West Stimpson Avenue. The League will be held on the Soccer Field, entrance on West Stimpson Avenue.
  • When: The League begins on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm.
  • How: Registration deadline is July 1, 2024. After deadline, all registrants must register by calling 908-474-8600, and a waiting list will be established. Registration fee is $50 for residents. A one-time annual $6 insurance fee will be added to your total registration fee, per child, if this has not already been paid for with another program. All participants must have their own shin guards. Register online here, or register in person at the John T. Gregorio Center (330 Helen Street) from 9am until 4pm, or at the Linden Multi Purpose Center (1025 John Street) from 9:30am until 7pm. All locations accept checks, money orders, Visa and Mastercard. 2024 Summer Tennis Lessons

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation, and USTA Certified Pro tennis instructor Tony Labonte are pleased to present Summer Tennis Lessons. Youth and Adult sessions will be offered.

2024 City of Linden Summer Entertainment Series

  • What: Come and enjoy the Summer Entertainment Series, events include live music of different genres, Legends of Linden, and comedy!
  • When: The 2024 Summer Entertainment Series will be held on varying nights from May 23 through September 20, 2024. Click here to view and/or download the 2024 Summer Entertainment Series entertainment schedule.
    • Concert events will begin at 7:30pm and end at 9pm.
    • Comedy Under The Stars will begin at 6:30pm and end at 9pm.
    • House Music events will begin at 4:30pm and end at 9pm.

  • Where: Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, which is located at 400 North Wood Avenue.
  • How: Free event. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional seating available for lawn chairs as space permits.
