Mission

Honor and recognize City of Linden servicemen and women and their families who have served or given their lives to our country in the United States Armed Forces.

Application Requirements

In order to be considered for a banner, the nominee must meet the following requirements:

  • Lived in the City of Linden at some point in their lifetime.
  • Served in one of the following branches: Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, National Guard, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine.
  • Meet one of the following criteria: honorably discharged Veteran, died in the line of duty

Banner Design, Time Frame & Location

Banners are approximately 29”x 55”, vinyl material and include services person’s name, branch of service, era of service and photograph. Banners will be displayed on poles along Wood Avenue for a designated period of time. Banner locations will be selected randomly and specific display locations cannot be requested. A branch of service circular logo will adorn the banner over the veteran’s image. The banners will contain the logos of Linden Special Improvement District, the Linden Department of Parks and Recreation, the City of Linden.

Banner Photograph (Required)

Please secure a photograph of the veteran you would like to use on the banner, and submit the photograph with the application. The better quality photograph, the better the reproduction on the banner. We will accept a digital photograph, preferably a service portrait.

Heavy Rain and Flooding Alert

The National Weather Service is forecasting a significant rain event that will impact portions of New Jersey over the coming days, bringing periods of heavy rainfall, localized flooding, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions. Expected rainfall amounts may cause flooding in low-lying areas, poor drainage locations, roadways, streams, and flood-prone properties. Additionally, gusty winds could lead to isolated power outages, downed trees, and travel disruptions. 

We urge all residents to exercise caution, avoid driving through flooded roads, and secure any loose outdoor items.

  • Who: Linden’s school age residents.
  • What: Mayor’s Backpack Giveaway. Children must be present to receive a bag. One bag per child. While supplies last! In conjunction with Linden Public Schools ML Department Orientation Day. Empowering families through education, health, and community connections. Connecting families with valuable resources and services! Free pizza and water while supplies last.
    • Fun, resources, and multilingual family support.
    • Free food, health information, and giveaways.
    • Live music entertainment, and children’s activities.
    • Genesis and lunch form assistance.
    • Sign up for a free library card!
  • When: Friday, August 21, 2026 from 5pm until 7pm.
  • Where: School #1, which is located at 728 North Wood Avenue.
  • How: Proof of Linden residency will be required at check in to receive a ticket for a bag. One bag per child. While supplies last!

Pop Warner Football

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation present Pop Warner Football. One Team. One Community. One Goal.

  • Who: Open to all children ages 5 through 12.
    • Flag Football: Ages 5 through 7.
    • Tackle Football: Ages 8 through 12.
  • What: Pop Warner Football a subsidiary of Linden Youth Sports.
  • When: Practice begins on Wednesday, July 22 through Friday, November 20, 2026 from 6pm until 8pm.
  • Where: Al Kalla Park, which is located at 2800 Wickersham Avenue.
  • How: Flag football $50. Tackle football $100. Click here* to register. You can register in-person at the PAL building (400 Maple Avenue) on Saturdays from 9am until 3pm, or Al Kalla Park (2800 Wickersham Avenue) beginning July 22 from 6:30pm until 8pm. During registration you are required to bring the following options: check, money order, cash, cash app (coming soon). Checks and money orders must be made out to Linden Youth Sports. During registration you are required to bring the following:
    • End of school year report card
    • Birth certificate
    • Physical
    • Current picture

Linden Fire Department 2026 Junior Fire Academy

What an incredible week at the Linden Fire Department Junior Fire Academy!

This year, we hosted 30 Junior Fire Academy cadets who received an exclusive, hands-on look at what it truly takes to be a firefighter. Over just one week, we witnessed a transformation that was nothing short of inspiring. These graduates shows up as individuals and left as a completely unified team, fully embodying the discipline, teamwork, and core values of the fire service.

Throughout their rigorous training at the Fire Academy, these cadets faced every challenge with grit and determination. They learned everything from how to move and operate hoselines, perform search and rescue operations in dark/unfamiliar environments, execute proper ventilation, and master intricate ropes and knots. They utilized extrication equipment to rescue victims inside or under a vehicle.

Their training didn’t stop with fire maneuvers. They also trained as first responders, learning how to care for the injured by mastering CPR and utilizing Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) Machines. Because of their focus, every cadet it walking away with an official CPR certification. They are leaving this academy not just with new skills, but with the actual capability to save a life in their community.

Congratulations to our graduates! You make the City of Linden incredibly proud.

2026 City of Linden Summer Entertainment Series – Comedy Under the Stars

  • What: Come and enjoy the Summer Entertainment Series featuring Comedy Under the Stars, produced by Bob and Reggie Sumner at the Linden Outdoor Promenade with comedians Rashaun Reese, Cherry Ann Trinidad, and Jay Comedian. The evening’s soundtrack is provided by Linden’s very own DJ Mozart.
  • When: Thursday, July 23, 2026. Gates open at 6:30pm, showtime at 7pm.
  • Where: Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, which is located at 400 North Wood Avenue.
  • How: Free admission. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional seating available for lawn chairs as space permits. In the event of possible rain, call 908-474-8604 after 3pm to verify if the event will go on as scheduled. If canceled, the event will be rescheduled for another date if possible.
