Self-Defense Class

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer a self-defense class hosted by the Linden Police Department. The self-defense community event taught by certified instructors will provide our residents the opportunity to learn essential standing and ground skills to stay safe and confident.

  • Who: Ages 18 and up.
  • What: Self-defense class hosted by the Linden Police Department. This class is open to all adults, including seniors, who want to learn practical skills to feel safer and confident. Participants should be able to engage in light physical activity, such as standing or basic movements, to fully benefit from the class. Seniors with more advanced mobility challenges are warmly invited to join as spectators.
  • Where: John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • When: Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 5pm until 7:30pm.

Summer XC – Track Conditioning Program

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the Summer XC/Track Conditioning Program.

  • Who: Grades 6 through 12.
  • What: Summer XC/Track Conditioning Program. The focus of this program is to begin conditioning for the upcoming athletic year. There will be a focus on drills, stretches, strength training and running. Be sure to bring sneakers, athletic clothing and water!
  • When: 8am until 10am, Monday through Thursday (weather permitting), beginning July 7 through July 31, 2025.
  • Where: Linden Field House at Tiger Stadium, which is located at 700 West Curtis Street.

2025 Linden Tigers – Summer Baseball Camp

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the 2025 Linden Tigers – Summer Baseball Camp.

  • Who: For boys ages 5 through 14.
  • What: Baseball Camp for boys, with instructors Craig Goldberg (LHS Varsity Baseball Head Coach), Xavier Krok (LHS Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach), Dan O’Lear (LHS Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach) and the Linden High School Varsity Baseball Players.
  • Where: Memorial Field (next to the P.A.L. Fields), which is located at 55 Lower Road.
  • When: 9am until 12pm, from July 21 through July 24.
    • Rain date: Thursday, July 25.

Senior Citizen Bowling

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Senior Citizen Bowling!

  • Who: For Linden Senior Residents.
  • What: Senior Citizen Bowling!
  • Where: Jersey Lanes which is located at 30 Park Avenue. Pick up and drop off will take place at the John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • When: Wednesdays, June 4 through August 27, from 1pm until 3pm.
  • How: Fee for program is $5. Must be a Recreation Senior Citizen Member to register. The fee includes 2 hours of bowling time, transportation and shoes. Pick up and drop off will take place at the JTG center.

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer a Smartphone Training Workshop. This program is made possible in part by a 2025 HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of Commissioners.

  • What: Smartphone Training Workshop hosted by Valerie Porter. Attendees will learn how to become more independent with their smartphones.

    • The June 2 session will focus on how to create a social security account online to access earning data and other important information.
