Homefirst Presents: Cooking at Home with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield

Everyone is invited to this free virtual event. 

On October 14, 2020 at 12pm, join us online for our virtual cooking demo of some of our favorite treats. This session we will be making Honey-Ginger Fruit Dip. There will be a special prize drawing for participants! To sign up, follow the steps below.

Homefirst is hosting a home cooking demo in collaboration with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield. Homefirst is a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit organization combatting homelessness through access to transitional and permanent housing, client advocacy, and emergency funding in service to the Union County community for over 34 years.

A Special Meeting of the Linden Shade Tree Commission will take place at 6pm on Thursday, October 1, 2020. The meeting will be held electronically due to current health emergency, as declared by the Governor of New Jersey, limiting personal contact and public gatherings. Members of the public wishing to offer comments can access the meeting using the Go-To- Meetings electronic platform below. Please keep your microphone muted until the public comment portion of the meeting. Official action may be taken at this meeting. Portions of the meeting may be held in Executive Session.

Free COVID-19 Testing on October 1st from 10am – 1pm at the Linden Housing Authority Dill Avenue Parking Lot

It is important to get tested if you are experiencing any symptoms, have been in close contact with someone who tested positive, or were recently in a large crowd where social distancing was hard to maintain. This event is Sponsored by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Drive-In Movie Night!

With the success of the LHS Class of 2020 Post Graduation Celebration, Mayor Armstead announced last week that on October 2nd, 3rd, 9th and 10th, the City is lifting the curtain for it’s first drive-in movie at Linden Airport. Families are invited to enjoy The Lion King, Onward, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Black Panther. Tickets are $20 dollars per vehicle.

  • For October 2nd and 3rd, the rain date will be October 4th.
  • For October 9th and 10th, the rain date will be October 11th.

Linden Airport – enter through Wildcat Way off of Route 1/9 North.

  • Gates open at 6pm.
  • Movies start at 7:15pm sharp!

Cost

$20 per vehicle – please remember that you need a seatbelt for each of your passengers.

  • Fun Food will be available for purchase!
  • You may also bring your own food, snacks and drinks.
  • No alcoholic beverages are permitted.

Other

  • Lawn chairs are allowed, as long as their placement adheres to current social distancing requirements.

Free Naloxone Giveaway on September 24-26, 2020

Naloxone Saves Lives!

The State of New Jersey is providing naloxone for free at participating pharmacies. Naloxone can reverse opioid overdoses. It will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. Limit one per person.

Professionals, professional entities, first responders and first responder entities, as defined in N.J.S.A. 24:6J-3, are not eligible to obtain the opioid antidote through this project.

Food Distribution Event – September 19, 10am

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and Village Super Market of Springfield Township, New Jersey are providing this drive through only food distribution event to all Union County residents affected by COVID-19 on September 19, 10am.

Location

Cedar Brook Park – Park Avenue Entrance – Plainfield, NJ 07067

Event Details

  • First 2,000 vehicles will receive shelf-safe food and fresh produce on a first come, first served basis
  • One food distribution per vehicle, while supplies last
  • Please make sure to clear out the vehicle’s trunk prior to arrival to make room for food bags
  • Bring one (1) proof of NJ residency, such as a utility bill, driver’s license, ID card, etc.
  • Event will take place rain or shine
