Union County is holding a flu shot drive in Westfield on Thursday, October 29th from 4pm to 7pm at the Colleen Fraser Building (300 North Avenue East) to help ensure that everyone has access to a free seasonal flu vaccine at a convenient location, especially residents who have no health insurance.

Protection against seasonal flu is more important than ever before due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Pre-registration is required. County residents can attend any of our upcoming flu drives. View schedule and register here.

Trick or Treat!

A Message From Mayor Armstead – The City of Linden is excited for our children to enjoy Halloween!

The following was developed with guidance from the New Jersey Department of Health. No one should participate in Halloween activities if they or a household member have a known exposure to COVID-19, have symptoms of COVID-19, or have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and have not yet met the criteria for discontinuing isolation or were told to quarantine.

Giving Out Treats

  • So that trick-or-treaters know which homes are participating this year, if you would like to give out candy, then please turn your porch light on. If you don’t plan to give out candy, then please keep your porch lights off.
  • Instead of placing treats directly in the bags of trick-or-treaters or filling communal bowls that multiple hands reach into, individually packaged candy should be arranged in a way that they can be easily grabbed without multiple pieces being touched.
  • You can also leave treats on a porch or table or in a place where it may be easily accessed while adhering to social distancing requirements.
  • Please limit interaction and contact with trick-or-treaters, wear a face covering when individuals come to the door, and regularly wash your hands.
  • All candy given out should be commercially packaged and non-perishable.

Trick Or Treating

  • Those who go trick-or-treating, please wear a mask and make sure to social distance.
  • Please limit your groups to current household members, and consider staying local (within a 2, 3 block radius of your home), and limit the number of homes on your route.

Free Flu Shot Information

The Freeholder Board announced updated dates and locations for upcoming flu shot drives throughout Union County in October and November. The County is offering a series of free flu shot drives in local communities to help ensure that everyone has access to a free seasonal flu vaccine at a convenient location, especially residents who have no health insurance.

The free flu shot drive is open to Union County residents age four and up. Appointments are required and residents can schedule their appointment by visiting ucnj.org/flu or calling 908-518-4307. Masks are required for residents who attend to receive a flu shot. Temperatures will be taken when arriving.

“Public health experts are concerned that our medical resources will be overwhelmed if a seasonal flu outbreak combines with the COVID-19 crisis,” said Union County Freeholder Chairman Alexander Mirabella. “If you have never gotten a seasonal flu shot before, now is the time to do it. Let’s all do our part to help our Union County family stay safe during the flu season.”

Protection against seasonal flu is more important than ever before due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Persons who have a fever, coughing, sneezing, or other signs of illness will not be admitted to a flu drive site. Residents who are experiencing symptoms of illness should check with their doctor. Persons with health insurance are advised to visit their local pharmacy or doctor’s office to receive the flu shot.
