New Jersey American Water has LIFTED The Mandatory Boil Water Advisory

New Jersey American Water has LIFTED the mandatory boil water advisory that was issued Monday to impacted towns in Middlesex, Somerset and Union Counties. Analytical results from bacteriological samples taken from the water system met all state and federal water quality standards from samples collected on Tuesday, August 3rd.

The advisory was issued on Monday, August 2 as a precautionary measure due to a loss of pressure from a transmission main leak along Possumtown Road in Piscataway, N.J.

Customers no longer need to boil their water, but they should flush household pipes, ice makers, water fountains, etc. prior to using for drinking or cooking. Additionally, as the system has fully recovered from the issue, customers in these communities and surrounding towns no longer need to conserve their non-essential water use and may resume using water as usual.

Because the Boil Water Advisory has been lifted, the bottled water distribution locations will not be open on Thursday, August 5, 2021.

Update to the Mandatory Boil Water Advisory In Effect In Linden

The leaking transmission main has been mostly isolated and water pressure is being restored in the system. As water pressure begins to return to customers’ homes, it may be discolored. If this occurs, customers should allow a cold water tap in the lowest part of their home to run until water is clear before collecting it to boil for consumption.

A Message From Phillips 66

Yesterday, July 26, gasoline was released at the Rahway Tank Farm into secondary containment onsite. Our Bayway Emergency Responders and the Linden Fire Department responded and together have stabilized the release. The material did not leave the tank field property.

Phillips 66 personnel have been conducting fence-line air quality monitoring. Collected data indicate no benzene levels in the community. We are working with local officials to ensure the community stays informed. The Linden Police Department has utilized the NIXLE Alert system to facilitate communication.

A precautionary message was sent last night at about 9pm. Cleaning and monitoring will continue to ensure the safety of the community, the environment, and our people which is of utmost importance to our company. Any additional measures will be communicated to the community by Linden Police NIXLE system or the reverse 911 emergency notification system.

Phillips 66 continue to work closely with Linden Fire Department and Linden Police Department on the response.
