Hooked on Fishing

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to announce that registration is open for the 2025 Fishing Season for all Linden children ages 5 through 18! Registration deadline is Thursday, April 10, 2025. All children ages 5 through 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Ages 16 and older will need to purchase a fishing license. All attendees must wear provided goggles.

  • Who: Linden children ages 5 through 18.
  • What: Hooked on Fishing. This program will teach children basic fishing skills, including how to string and bait a pole, how to cast a line and about local fishing regulations. All attendees must wear provided goggles. We encourage you to bring your chair and snacks. Let’s enjoy the fishing season!
  • When: Thursdays, from 5:30pm until 7pm.
    • April 24.
    • May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.
    • June 5, 19, and 26.
    • June 12 – No class.
    • **Fishing Derby is on Saturday, May 31, from 10am until 2pm, in honor of Butchie Scoles (awards to follow)**
  • Where: Wilson Park, which is located at 1113 Summit Terrace.
  • How: Registration deadline is Thursday, April 10, 2025. Free program, plus $6 insurance fee for first-time registrants. All children ages 5 through 13 must be accompanied by an adult. 2025 Black History Vision Board

Congratulations to two Linden public school students (brother and sister) Elise and Mario Cumberbatch, from McManus were the highlight of the City of Linden’s Department of Parks and Recreation Black History Vision Board Display. This recognition was held at the John T. Gregorio Center on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Each participant had the opportunity to express themselves artistically through art. Their vision boards were a way to represent their goals, future and intentions using a collage of images, photos, newspaper clippings, etc. Elise and Mario did a fantastic job! They both spoke briefly about their art projects, took pictures, and were awarded gifts. Elise and Mario each received a $25 Amazon gift card, a Black History goody bag, and a Black History T-shirt. 

In the featured pictures, the people included are as follows: Elise Cumberbatch, Supervisor of Recreation, Megan Martin-Ortiz and Mario Cumberbatch. 

Public Notice for the Request for Qualifications for Network Wiring Services

Public Notice for the Request for Qualifications of Professional Service Contracts beginning March 1, 2025. Notice is hereby given that in accordance with N.J.S.A. 19:44-20.5 et seq. through a fair and open process, the City of Linden is requesting sealed submissions for Professional Service Contracts. Sealed submissions will be received by the Purchasing Agent, Jessica L. Slawinski, of the City of Linden, on Friday, March 14, 2025 at 09:00 A.M. prevailing time, in the 1st Floor Purchasing Department, City Hall, City of Linden, 301 North Wood Avenue, Linden, NJ 07036 then publicly opened and read aloud for the following:

Network Wiring Services

Proposals must be submitted in a sealed envelope clearly marked REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS, for (Position Number as Listed Above, Name of Position) and bearing the name and address of the proposer on outside; addressed to the Purchasing Agent, Jessica L. Slawinski, City of Linden, City Hall, Purchasing Department, 301 North Wood Avenue, 1st Floor, Linden, NJ 07036.

In addition to full compliance with N.J.S.A. 19:44A-20.4 et. seq. (“Pay To Play”), individuals or firms awarded contracts under these procedures will be required to comply with the requirements of N.J.S.A. 52:32-44 (Business Registration of Public contractors), 42 U.S.C. Section 12101 et. seq. (Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990), N.J.S.A. 10:5-31 et seq. And N.J.A.C. 17:27 et seq. (Contract Compliance and Equal Employment Opportunities in Public Contracts)

Any RFQ Addenda will be issued on the website and processed in accordance with N.J.S.A. 40A11-23(c)(1).  All interested respondents should check the website from now through RFQ opening. It is the sole responsibility of the respondent to be knowledgeable of all addenda related to this procurement.   

Submission by Corporations and Partnerships shall include a completed Disclosure of Ownership form (N.J.S.A. 52:25-24.2) and shall include a completed Non-Collusion Affidavit.

The City of Linden reserves the right to reject any or all submissions due to any defects or waive informalities and accept any submissions that in their judgment will be in the best interest of the City of Linden. The City of Linden shall award the contract or reject all submissions no later than 60 days from receipt of the same.

Linden Police Department Youth Police Academy

  • Who: The Linden Police Department Youth Police Academy is available to Linden students graduating 6th, 7th and 8th grades.
  • What: Linden Police Department Youth Academy. As part of the Academy, you’ll learn about the Linden Police Department and other law enforcement agencies, you’ll receive basic training in police procedures/operations, criminal investigations, drill and ceremony and first aid! You will also benefit from demonstrations including DUI goggles, the effects of drinking and driving, K‐9, SWAT, Bomb Squad, and more! And most of all, you’ll have a lot of fun! The LPD Youth Academy is NOT a “bootcamp” for troubled youth. The Academy is structured to simulate a police academy for those interested in law enforcement.
  • When: July 14 through July 18, 2025.
  • How: Application deadline is April 11, 2025 at 3pm. Space is limited to 30 recruits. Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-serve basis. No late applications will be accepted. Who: Linden Seniors.

What & Where: The John T. Gregorio Recreation Center (330 Helen Street) and the Linden Multi-Purpose Center (1025 John Street) are open Monday through Friday 8:30am until 4:30pm and 8:30am until 8pm respectively. We offer culturally enriching, personal development, recreational and educational classes, socials, events, forums, exercise, trips and good company.

Unless specified, programs are held at the John T. Gregorio Recreation Center (JTG) or the Linden Multi-Purpose Center (LMPC). Within the center there are additional clubs and organizations you can join. Meetings are held weekly or monthly and usually begin at 1pm.

How: Please bring proof of residency with you when applying for a membership. Each member will be issued an official Young at Heart senior ID card providing access to all of our Senior programs. Membership is only $6.00 annually. Your ID card can also be used as a form of identification that you are a Linden Senior resident and are entitled to all senior discounts offered to our members at participating stores and businesses. Membership ID cards are issued Monday through Friday 9am until 4pm.

2025 Spring Soccer League

  • Who: Open to all children ages 6 through 12.
  • What: Outdoor soccer. All participants must have their own shin guards.
  • Where: Wheeler Park Turf Field, which is located at 234 West Stimpson Avenue. The League will be held on the Soccer Field, entrance on West Stimpson Avenue.
  • When: The League begins on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
  • How: Registration deadline is April 4, 2025. After deadline, all registrants must register by calling 908-474-8600 or 908-474-8627, and a waiting list will be established. Registration fee is $50 for residents, and $60 for non-residents. A one-time annual $6 insurance fee will be added to your total registration fee, per child, if this has not already been paid for with another program. All participants must have their own shin guards. Register online here, or register in person at the John T. Gregorio Center (330 Helen Street) from 9am until 4pm, or at the Linden Multi Purpose Center (1025 John Street) from 9:30am until 7pm. No refunds once the League begins. Documentary Film: The Two Suns of Georgia – The Untold Story.

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the Documentary Film The Two Suns of Georgia – The Untold Story. Join us in viewing this 60-minute documentary film based on two of the most illuminating minds of the 20th century. The film explores the divergent ideologies of Separation and Integration while exposing the historic, secret meeting between the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Reverend Martin Luther King in 1966. Their extraordinary lives changes the course of history.

  • What: Documentary Film the Two Suns of Georgia – The Untold Story. Two Suns of Georgia – the Untold Story is presented as an official selection in the world film festival in Cannes and Prague 2025. The film was produced for foremost productions, and independent multi-award winning New Jersey film company. Foremost productions is dedicated to a standard of excellence in creating artistic and innovative cinema.
  • Where: Linden Multi-Purpose Center, which is located at 1025 John Street.
  • When: Friday, February 28 from 5:30pm until 6:30pm.

  • Where: Instructional Clinic will be held at Wheeler Park, which is located at 234 West Stimpson Avenue. Clinic located on the Soccer Field, entrance on West Stimpson Avenue.
  • When: The Little Kickers Clinic begins on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at 9am. Clinic will run for eight (8) Saturdays: April 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31.
  • How: Registration deadline is April 4, 2025. After deadline, all registrants must register by calling 908-474-8600, and a waiting list will be established. Registration fee is $50 for residents, and $60 for non-residents.
