Additional Snow Removal Operations

Please be advised that additional snow removal operations are in effect in Linden. See below for specifics.

Emergency Food Distribution Event – Thursday, February 4th from 10am – 12pm

The Union County Board of County Commissioners, the Village Super Market of Springfield Township, and Gargiulo Produce are providing a walk-up food distribution event to all Union County residents affected by COVID-19 on Thursday, February 4th.   • Please note that the original location for this event has been changed. This event is at Plainfield High School.
  • Not at Gerald B Green Plaza; 200 W. 2nd Street, Plainfield NJ 07060 – Rotunda Complex

Event Details

  • First 300 people will receive shelf-safe food and fresh produce on a first come, first served basis.
  • One food distribution per household, while supplies last.
  • Bring a cart for the walk-up.
  • Refrigerate any perishable items shortly after distribution.
  • Bring one (1) proof of NJ residency, such as a utility bill, driver’s license, ID card, etc.
  • Event will take place rain or shine.

Snow Update

  • Due to the massive snowfall brought on by this Nor’Easter, DPW will be plowing and salting well into Tuesday morning. As a result, commingled (blue cart) recycling tomorrow (Tuesday, February 2nd, 2021) is cancelled.
  • After the storm is over, please put your blue carts out and DPW will work the rest of the week to empty them, starting with Districts 1,2,3 9 & 10, then the rest later in the week, possibly into Saturday.
  • As of now, garbage will still be collected as per the normal schedule.
  • Please do not blow snow into the streets!

Notice RE Shade Tree Commission Revised February 4, 2021 Meeting Notice for Due to COVID-19 International Health Crisis

The regular meeting of the Linden Shade Tree Commission will be held at 7pm. The meeting will be held electronically due to current health emergency, as declared by the Governor of New Jersey, limiting personal contact and public gatherings.

The public may offer comment, at appropriate times by voice when the meeting is open for public comment in the program, or by submitting written comment no later than 12pm. prevailing local time, on the date of the meeting to the Commission Chairman/Secretary by email or by fax to (908) 474-8451. Please include your name and address in the correspondence and title emails “public meeting comment.” Please keep your microphone muted until the public comment portion of the meeting. Official action may be taken at this meeting. Portions of the meeting may be held in Executive Session.

Recycling Collection for Monday February 1st, 2021

Due to expected inclement weather conditions, recycling collection for Monday, February 1st 2021 has been cancelled.

Please do your best to keep cars in driveways when possible during snow, to help our DPW snow removal team quickly and efficiently clear the snow from streets.

COVID-19 Vaccination Call Center for Seniors

In order to better assist seniors 65 years of age and older, and those who may not have internet access, the Union County Board of County Commissioners announced the opening Friday, January 29th of a COVID-19 Vaccination Call Center for residents to schedule an appointment. The Union County COVID-19 Vaccine Call Center will also work to answer questions from residents who need more information regarding the COVID-19 vaccine, and can also help arrange transportation if necessary for residents with a confirmed vaccination appointment. Call 908-613-7829, on Monday though Friday, 9am until 7pm, and Saturdays from 9am until 1pm.

  Within the hotline system, there will be tailored assistance for:

  • Seniors over 65 years of age;
  • Those in the 18-64 age range with qualifying medical conditions who may lack internet access;
  • Residents who need assistance in Spanish;
  • Residents who may need assistance with transportation to and from vaccination sites

Those currently eligible to receive the vaccination are individuals ages 65 and older, persons 18-64 with high-risk medical conditions, uniformed police officers, firefighters, health care workers and others identified in Group 1A. Those who wish to make an appointment online for the Union County Vaccination center may also do so here.
