Mayor Armstead Invites You To Attend The 2nd Annual Polish Heritage Festival

Mayor Derek Armstead, The City of Linden, Uptown Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are hosting the 2nd Annual 2021 Polish Heritage Festival on September 18th from 1pm – 9pm at the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, located at 400 North Wood Avenue.

Adult Zumba Classes

The Department of Parks & Recreation is offering an adult Zumba class for ages 13 and older.

  • When: September 29th through December 8th, from 6:30pm until 7:30pm
  • Where: John T Gregorio Center
  • How: The fee is $50. Registration is required and must be done at least one week before the start of class. Halloween Parade

The City of Linden Department of Parks & Recreation and the Halloween Parade Committee announces that they are soliciting schools, individuals, marching bands and organizations to march in the 68th Annual Linden Halloween Parade.

  • When: The parade is scheduled for Sunday October 24th, with a rain date of October 31st. The parade starts at 2pm. Line up for marching units is 1pm.

FEMA Disaster Assistance Recovery

Disaster Recovery Center will be open in Union County at Elizabeth O’Donnell Dempsey Senior Community Center, 618 Salem Ave., Elizabeth, NJ 07208 from 7am until 7pm Monday through Friday, 8am until 5pm on Saturday, and 8am until 5pm on Sunday. Representatives from FEMA and U.S. Small Business Administration will be at disaster center to help explain disaster assistance programs and answer any questions your constituents may have.

FEMA and NJOEM are committed to providing equitable service in each of the designated counties. Additional centers will be opening soon to support survivors.

If you have homeowners or renters insurance, you should file a claim as soon as possible. By law, FEMA cannot duplicate benefits for losses covered by insurance. If you are uninsured or underinsured, you may be eligible for federal assistance.

The fastest and easiest way to apply is by clicking here or by downloading the FEMA App on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. If it is not possible to apply online, then call 800-621-3362 (TTY: 800-462-7585). The toll-free telephone lines operate from 6am to 10pm CDT, seven days a week. Those who use a relay service such as a videophone, InnoCaption or CapTel should update FEMA with their specific number assigned to that service.

When you apply for assistance, have the following information readily available:

  • A current phone number where you can be contacted
  • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying
  • Your Social Security number, if available
  • A general list of damage and losses
  • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name

Disaster assistance may include financial help for temporary lodging and home repairs along with other programs to assist families recover from the effects of the event.

Eligible Union County Seniors Can Still Apply for Farmers Market Vouchers!

Due to ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, Farmers Market vouchers for eligible Union County seniors are being distributed only by mail. Each eligible senior can obtain five $6 dollar vouchers for a total of $30 to purchase “Jersey Fresh” fruits, vegetables and herbs at Farmers Markets that display the black and yellow WIC posters.

To be eligible, seniors must be age 60 and older. A single person’s annual income cannot exceed $1,986 per month and a married couple’s combined income may not exceed $2,686 per month.

Eligible seniors who have not yet received vouchers can request a voucher application form by calling the Union County Division on Aging, 908-527-4870, 908-527-4877 or 888-280-8226, weekdays from 8am until 4pm.  Eligible seniors can receive a set of vouchers one time per year.

A limited number of vouchers are still available and applications will be evaluated on a “first-come first-served” basis. 

Face coverings and social distance may be required when visiting Farmers Market sites during this summer season.

  • Rahway (Rahway Farmer’s Market, at NJ Transit Train Station Plaza
  • Roselle Park (Roselle ark Farmers’ Market, at Chestnut Street and East Grant Avenue)
  • Scotch Plains (Scotch Plains Farmers’ Market, Municipal Parking Lot at 430 Park Avenue)
  • Springfield (66 Mountain Avenue)
  • Summit (Park & Shop #2, at Maple Street and DeForest Avenue)
  • Westfield (NJ Transit Railroad Station, North Avenue Parking Lot)
