  • What: Informational sessions for becoming a Linden Firefighter.
  • When Tuesday, August 2nd and Thursday, August 25th, 2022 at 7pm.
  • Where: Firehouse #3, which is located at 1205 East Elizabeth Avenue.
  • How: Click here to apply to become a Linden Firefighter. The deadline to apply is August 31st, 2022 at 4pm. Applicant requirements are as follows: must be a U.S. Citizen between the ages of 18 and 34, a resident of Linden, have a high school diploma or GED, and have a valid New Jersey driver’s license.

The City of Linden Latin Festival!

Mayor Derek Armstead, Uptown Linden, Duce Martinez and D-Wild Radio present the City of Linden Latin Festival. Bringing the Latin community together for one big event!

  • What: Latin festival with entertainment and giveaways! There will also be a “Kid Zone” with children’s games, face painting, crafts and activities.
  • Where: In front of Linden City Hall, which is located at 301 North Wood Avenue. The “Kid Zone” will be held at the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, which is located at 400 North Wood Avenue.
  • When: Saturday, July 30th from 12pm until 9pm. Rain date is Sunday, July 31st.

Notice RE July 12, 2022 Planning Board Meeting

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on July `12, 2022 in accordance with the Open Public Meeting Act, N.J.S.A. 10:4-6 et. seq., and the Governor of New Jersey’s Executive Orders 102 and 104 regarding COVID-19 the Planning Board of the City of Linden will conduct its regular meeting at 6:30 pm.

The meeting will be held in person, but those who wish to attend Virtually may do so, this way limiting personal contact at a public gathering. Registration is not required for this meeting. Members of the Public may access the meeting from their computer, tablet or smartphone by going here and then clicking on the “Virtual Meeting Link” hyperlink. 

At this meeting the Board will vote on Resolutions; namely, SD 770-22 – Dennis J. Valvano III – 6 Furber Ave; SP 1153-22 – 1001 E. Edgar Urban Renewal, LLC – 1001 E Edgar Rd; and hear three Applications, namely, SP 1146-21 – Food Basket NJ, LLC – 911 St. Georges Ave, SP 1150-22 Target – 621 W. Edgar Road and hear Redevelopment Plan for Block 469, Lot 38.06.

2022 National Night Out

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden and the Linden Police Department invite you to come and enjoy the 2022 National Night Out!

Recycling Center – Extended Hours

Starting Wednesday July 6, 2022 through October 2022, the City of Linden is extending the hours at its Recycling Center on Wednesdays only, until 8pm.

The pilot program to extend the Linden Recycling Center hours will occur on Wednesdays only, until 8pm, through October 2022. The extended hours on Wednesdays will allow Linden residents with later work schedules to drop off their recyclables. The Recycling Center hours will remain the same for the other days of the week.

  • The Linden Recycling Center hours are as follows:
    • Monday from 7am until 2:30pm
    • Tuesday from 7am until 2:30pm
    • Wednesday from 7am until 2:30pm (beginning July 6 through October, 2022, Wednesday hours will be from 7am until 8pm)
    • Thursday from 7am until 2:30pm
    • Friday from 7am until 2:30pm
    • Saturday from 8am until 2pm

Associated Humane Societies Mobile Veterinary Clinic – Event Postponed

EVENT POSTPONED. More information regarding rescheduling will be posted once available.

Mayor Derek Armstead and the City of Linden have partnered with the Associated Humane Societies to provide Linden residents with the Associated Humane Societies Mobile Unit by appointment only on July 26th.

Services to be offered by appointment only include wellness checks, vaccinations and microchips. No surgeries.

REQUIREMENTS:
NOTE:  Before proceeding, you MUST click here and read the “FIRE FIGHTER FACT SHEET”.
Applicants must be citizens of the United States as of August 31, 2022. Applicants must meet residency preferences specified on the Fire Fighter Fact Sheet as of August 31, 2022. Applicants must be high school or vocational high school graduates, or possess an approved high school equivalent certificate by August 31, 2022. Applicants must be at least 18 years old but not over 35 years old (one is over 35 years old on the day after his/her 35th birthday). An exception to the 35 year age limit is that volunteer Fire Fighters must not be over 40 years old as of their appointment date per NJSA 40A:14-45. Candidates certified from the eligible list may be required to undergo a medical and psychiatric examination administered by the hiring agency. Appointees will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. Appointees must complete a firefighting training program approved by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division of Fire Safety, within the timeframe specified by the Appointing Authority. Appointees are not permitted to participate in firefighting activities prior to completion of this training. For some jurisdictions, once appointed, employees may be required to successfully complete an approved Emergency Medical Technician program and maintain certification while employed as a Fire Fighter. Please contact the hiring agency to determine if you will be required to obtain the EMT certification after you are hired. CPR Certification: Appointees may be required to possess a current and valid CPR Certification issued by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association. Candidates must be residents of New Jersey as of August 31, 2022 and as of their appointment date to a Fire Fighter position. Candidates interested in Bilingual in Spanish and English positions will be tested at the time of certification for their bilingual proficiency in reading, writing, speaking and communicating effectively in Spanish. The NJ Fire Fighter Examination Administration Guide and the Fire Fighter Physical Performance Test Manual are available on the Civil Service Commission website. When test dates are established, they will be posted on the CSC website. Appointees must complete a firefighting training program approved by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs, Division of Fire Safety, within the timeframe specified by the Appointing Authority. Appointees are not permitted to participate in firefighting activities prior to completion of this training.

Mayor Derek Armstead has partnered with Super Health Pharmacy to provide Linden residents ages 3 and up with COVID-19 vaccinations. Walkups permitted, but you must first fill out the consent form online by clicking here.
