New Garbage Collection Schedules for 2020

Collection schedules have been revised to reflect the change from manual to automated recycling in half of the City. These schedules also correct a mistake around the Veteran’s Day holiday from the originals. These schedules also being hand-delivered to every residence. Please click below to view and/or download the revised collection schedules. Please note that the second page of each schedule below contains rules for all Districts.

Bulk Trash Pickup is Back!

Normal curbside bulk trash collection resumed on Wednesday June 3rd (not retroactively) beginning with the 4th Collection District, and then continuing forward. We are permanently accepting bulk trash at the DPW yard, Monday through Saturday, from 8am until 2pm. Linden residents are encouraged to call 908-474-8666 with any questions.

What not to flush, and how to prevent backups.

Help maintain a healthy sewer system in our community!

We continue to be proactive in our response to Coronavirus (COVID-19). Due to this public health emergency our equipment is experiencing blockages from “flushable” and disinfectant wipes. With the increased use of wipes (“flushable”, wet, baby, anti-bacterial, disinfectant) and paper towels, we are reminding all residents to PLEASE make sure you put these items in the trash and do not flush them down the toilet!

“Flushable wipes” are often marketed as an alternative to toilet paper and claim to be “flushable” and “sewer safe.” However…

  • These wipes DO NOT break down when flushed in both private household plumbing and the public sewer system.
  • Serious blockages resulting in septic and sewer backups may occur.
  • Disposable wipes, even those labeled ‘flushable’ should be disposed of in the trash, not flushed down the toilet.

Read the informative flyer for more information. Thank you for helping us maintain a healthy sewer system in our community!

Recycle Coach App for Recycling

The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to announce the launch of Recycle Coach, a free app designed to help make recycling and solid waste information more accessible to County residents and engage the public in the principles of “Reduce, Re-use and Recycle.”

Recycle Coach provides accurate, up-to-date information on Union County’s recycling events as well as local recycling schedules in a handy, user-friendly mobile format. “Recycle Coach is an excellent opportunity for Union County residents to obtain accurate, up-to-date information on both county recycling events and local recycling schedules with the touch of a button,” said Freeholder Chairman Sergio Granados. “We look forward to partnering with all 21 Union County municipalities on this exciting new initiative, and pitching in together to boost participation and improve recycling rates countywide.”

The app provides personalized collection schedules based on place of residence. Once a resident downloads Recycle Coach, their calendar will list Union County recycling events along with local curbside garbage and recycling schedules. The app will advise if there are changes in local collection due to holidays or weather. Recycle Coach users can also set up recycling reminders and improve their recycling rates through a “What Goes Where?” search tool.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is the first state to purchase the Recycle Coach app and make it available to all New Jersey residents free of charge. “By improving recycling rates here in Union County, we will also be contributing to our state’s ongoing commitment as a national leader in recycling,” said Chairman Granados.
