Backpack Giveaway

Mayor Derek Armstead in collaboration with the Mayor’s Youth Commission, Communities in Cooperation, Inc, and the Linden Department of Parks and Recreation present Backpack Giveaway!

  • Who: For Linden residents. Must show proof of linden address/residency. Linden health department and multilingual staff will be on hand to help families navigate and complete school paperwork.
  • What: Backpack Giveaway. Promoting and encouraging a violent free school year for all students! Sign up for a free linden library card! Free children’s activities! Live music entertainment featuring DJ Drewski and Zeddy Will during the event!
  • When: August 19, 2024 from 5pm until 8pm.
  • Where: School #1, which is located at 729 North Wood Avenue. Enter parking lot on Gibbons Street.
  • How: For Linden residents! Must show proof of linden address/residency.

Knitting for a Cause

Knitting and crocheting classes available to all Linden senior citizens. A basic knowledge of knitting or crocheting is required. The club will teach you the rest! Majority of items that are created are distributed to local hospitals and nursing homes.

    • Please note: No class on November 5, 2024 and December 24, 2024.

Beginners Woodshop Program

  • Who: Children must be between the ages of 6 through 10 to participate.
  • What: Beginners Woodshop Program. The instructor will be guiding all students to execute their make-and-take-home project!
  • Where: John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • When: Tuesdays, September 3 though October 29, from 6pm until 8pm.

2024 Tennis Camp

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation, and USTA Certified Pro Tennis Instructor Tony Labonte invite Linden residents to this year’s Tennis Camp.

  • Who: Ages from 6 through 15.
  • What: Tennis Camp; drills, games and an optional tournament. Contests with prizes awarded. Refreshments and loaner racquets provided.
  • Where: Wilson Park Tennis Courts, located at 1100-1198 Summit Terrace.
  • When: Monday through Thursday, August 19 through August 22 from 9:15am until 12:15pm.
    • Rain date: Friday, August 23, 2024.
  • How: $200 per person. Non-residents pay an additional $20. In person registration is available 9am until 4pm at the JTG Center (330 Helen Street) or the Linden Multi-Purpose Center (1025 John Street). Online registration available 24/7. 2024 John T. Gregorio Basketball Camp

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the 2024 John T. Gregorio Basketball Camp.

  • Who: For 3rd through 8th grade, Linden residents only.
  • What: Basketball Camp. Campers with learn basketball fundamentals, ball handling skills, footwork techniques, rebounding, shooting skills, dribbling skills, and offensive and defensive strategies.
  • Where: Linden High School Gymnasium, which is located at 121 West St. Georges Avenue.
  • When: August 5 through August 8, from 9am until 2pm (bring lunch).
  • How: Free program, registration required. Registration deadline is August 4, 2024. To view full program description and register online, click here.   • Who: For boys ages 5 through 14.
  • What: Baseball Camp for boys, with instructors Brandon Czajikowski (LHS Varsity Baseball Head Coach), Frank Hasenauer (LHS Varsity Baseball Assistant Coach) and the Linden High School Varsity Baseball Players.
  • Where: Memorial Field (next to the P.A.L. Fields), which is located at 46 Lower Road.
  • When: 8:30am until 1pm, from July 15 through July 17.
    • Rain date: Thursday, July 18.

  • What to bring to camp: Water, baseball glove, baseball bat, baseball cleats, hat, lunch, sunscreen, and shorts and towel for the slip-N-slide.

2024 Summer Mini Soccer League

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to announce the 2024 Summer Mini Soccer League. Register early to secure a spot on a team!

  • Who: Open to all children ages 8 through 12.
  • What: Outdoor soccer. All participants must have their own shin guards.
  • Where: Wheeler Park Turf Field, which is located at 234 West Stimpson Avenue. The League will be held on the Soccer Field, entrance on West Stimpson Avenue.
  • When: The League begins on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 and will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm.
  • How: Registration deadline is July 1, 2024. After deadline, all registrants must register by calling 908-474-8600, and a waiting list will be established. Registration fee is $50 for residents. A one-time annual $6 insurance fee will be added to your total registration fee, per child, if this has not already been paid for with another program. All participants must have their own shin guards. Register online here, or register in person at the John T. Gregorio Center (330 Helen Street) from 9am until 4pm, or at the Linden Multi Purpose Center (1025 John Street) from 9:30am until 7pm. All locations accept checks, money orders, Visa and Mastercard.
