  • Union County SNAP Benefits Update for November 2025 – Update as of November 7th

    Update – New Jersey issued full November 2025 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits to eligible households on the morning of Friday, November 7, 2025 following a federal court ruling.

    SNAP recipients are encouraged to check their Families First EBT cards at NJFamiliesFirst.com or by calling (800) 997-3333 to confirm their balances and use their benefits as needed.

    SNAP benefits loaded on your Families First EBT card prior to October 31 remain available for use as well.

    New Jersey continues to monitor developments and will continue to provide updates at NJSNAP.gov as needed. Additional assistance for SNAP households during the ongoing federal shutdown is available at NJ.gov/SNAPshutdown.

    Update – Please remember that while new funds will not be made available on November 1, 2025, SNAP recipients will be able to access any funds in their account that have carried over from October 2025 or previous months. SNAP recipients are encouraged to check their balances online here.

    Governor Murphy has called on the federal government to release federal SNAP funds, and New Jersey joined a multi-state lawsuit against the USDA and Secretary Brooke Rollins for unlawfully suspending SNAP funding despite the availability of contingency funding during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

    A number of pantries offer fresh produce in addition to stable, non-perishable foods, shopping appointments, and information about additional services. Residents can locate food pantries and community kitchens via NJ 211 here.

    “Nobody deserves to go hungry, and it is unacceptable for our federal government to put essential nutrition programs in such a precarious position. SNAP and WIC are lifelines to our most vulnerable neighbors – babies and children, seniors and hard-working families – and we cannot let them down,” said Acting New Jersey Health Commissioner Jeff Brown. “New Jersey did not create this crisis, but we will do everything we can to help ensure New Jerseyans don’t miss meals.”

    Due to the federal government shutdown, November SNAP benefits will not be available on November 1 if the shutdown continues.

    • Before shopping in November, please check your EBT card balance.
    • To check your EBT card balance, click here to visit the website or call 1-800-997-3333.

    If your balance shows SNAP benefits, you can use them. If your balance does not show SNAP benefits, benefits have not been added yet.

    You may still receive letters or see messages online saying you are eligible for November benefits. However, eligibility notices do not mean benefits were added to your card.

    November Benefits will only be available once federal funding resumes.

    You should continue submitting any documents or recertifications so your benefits can restart as soon as funding is restored.

  • The Linden Family Holiday Skate Party

    Mayor Derek Armstead and the Department of Parks & Recreation in conjunction with DWill’s Skate Academy invites you to the Linden Family Holiday Skate Party. Join us in celebrating the community’s first roller skating event!

    • What: The Linden Family Holiday Skating Party.
    • When: Thursday, December 18, 2025 from 5pm until 8pm.
    • Where: Branch Brook Park, Roller Skating Center, Clifton Avenue & 7th Avenue, Newark, NJ (Transportation will be provided).
    • How: Registration required. Click here to register. The registration deadline is December 5, 2025, and there are just a few sports available. $35 per person. Ticket price includes skate rentals, 2 slices of pizza, unlimited soft drinks, glow sticks, and transportation (outside food is allowed).   • Public Works Schedule Change Alert

    Please note the Department of Public Works (DPW) upcoming schedule change for the Leaf collection. Click here to view and/or download the Public Works modified schedule for October, 2025.

    Leaf collections will begin this week. We ask all Linden residents to adhere to the following rules regarding the removal of leaves from their properties.

    Linden DPW brings all collected leaves to the Union County recycling facility. The County has strict rules that we must adhere to when we dispose of the leaves at their site.

    They will accept leaves only. Therefore, whether you opt to bag your leaves or pile them in the curbline, they must not contain any tree limbs, branches, bushes, brush, concrete, plastic bags, solid waste or any other debris.

    Bagged leaves: Leaves must be placed in bio-degradable paper bags or 32 gallon trash cans. They will not be collected in plastic bags nor in your garbage or recycling carts.

    Residents can go to the recycling center located at 2 Donaldson Place and, upon providing proof of Linden residency, you can request a 10 pack bundle of paper bags. Bagged leave may be brought to the recycling center from October through December. The center is open Monday through Friday from 7am until 2:30pm and Saturday from 8am until 2pm.

    • Bagged Leaves Collection Dates
      • Districts 1, 2, 3, 9 and 10 will have bagged leaves collection on Thursdays: October 23, October 30, November 13, November 20, December 4, December 11 and December 18.
      • Districts 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 will have bagged leaves collections on Fridays: October 24, October 31, November 14, November 21, December 5, December 12 and December 19.
    • Leaf Machine Removal of Leaves in Curbline:
      • Leaves can be piled into the curbline from October 1, 2025 to December 12, 2025. In order to remove all leaves, during this time we do not follow the regular street sweeping schedule. However, residents must still obey the “No Parking” signs posted on all City streets. Our leaf vacuums and front end loaders operate on a rotating district basis. Logistical variations prevent us from giving exact dates when they will be on your street. Pile them neatly into the curbline and please be patient. They will be removed as our schedule permits.
      • The Department of Environmental Protection mandates that all leaf piles be kept 10 feet from existing sewer storm runoff basins. Also, leaf piles must not contain branches, sticks, bushed or garbage. There materials will not be collected by DPW. These rules apply to residents or landscapers.

  • 9th Annual Holiday Breakfast with Santa

    Mayor Derek Armstead, the Mayor’s Youth Commission and the Department of Parks & Recreation invite Linden families to the 9th Annual Holiday Breakfast with Santa. Seating limited to 180 families. Register now to secure your spot!

    • Who: Linden residents only.
    • What: Holiday breakfast with Santa! Kids eat free under age 16. Everyone 17 and over must pay a $5 entry donation, cash or check only made out to the Mayors Youth Commission. Toys will be gifted to children 10 years old and under. Take pictures with Santa. Seats limited to 180 people.
    • When: Saturday, December 13, 2025 from 8am until 11:30am.
    • Where: John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
    • How: Registration required. Complete the form below to secure your spot, seating limited to 180 families. Proof of Linden residency is required at event, bring your ID. Registration ends December 7, 2025. Kids eat free under age 16. Everyone 17 and over must pay a $5 entry donation, cash or check only made out to the Mayors Youth Commission.   • Public Works Schedule Change Alert

    Please note the Department of Public Works (DPW) upcoming schedule change for the November 11, Veterans Day. Click here to view and/or download the Public Works modified schedule for November, 2025. DPW will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. The holiday closure will facilitate the following changes to our operations and collections for November 12, 13, and November 14:

    • No Collections
      • Veterans Day – Tuesday, November 11 – the Department of Public Works (DPW) will be closed.
      • The Recycling Center and DPW bulk waste drop-off site will also be closed on Tuesday, November 11. Both facilities will reopen on Wednesday, November 12, 2025.
    • Cardboard / Mixed Paper Recycling
      • No change for Districts 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10. Brown carts will be collected on Monday November 10.
      • Wednesday, November 12 – Cardboard (brown carts) will be collected in Districts 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
    • Sanitation (household waste) Collections
      • Thursday, November 13 – Sanitation (green carts) will be collected in Districts 1, 2, 3, 9 and 10.
      • Friday, November 14 – Sanitation (green carts) will be collected in Districts 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
    • Bagged leaves will be collected this week
      • Thursday, November 13 – Districts 1, 2, 3, 9, and 10.
      • Friday, November 14, – Districts 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
