Important Local Linden COVID-19 Updates

The following is COVID-19 related information that was previously found on the live Google Doc. Going forward, this post will contain local updates.

  • Linden has suspended bulk trash pick-up, City-wide. Bulk trash drop off is available at Linden DPW, 700 Lower Road, Monday-Saturday from 8am-2pm. 
  • If you are out of work due to COVID-19,  you can apply for unemployment online, if you are eligible. 908-474-8665
  • NJ Transit rail lines are working on their weekend schedule until further notice, buses will follow the daily schedule.
  • For those residents who cannot make their rental/mortgage payments because of being out of work please note that you cannot be evicted or foreclosed upon. However, your landlord and or mortgage company/bank can start the proceedings but cannot enforce eviction or foreclosure until 60 days after the Executive Order by the Governor has been lifted.
  • Alternate Street Side Parking is Suspended.
  • The United Chinese Americans Association of New Jersey donated facial masks to the City of Linden.

  • Linden DPW has suspended Sewer Maintenance.
  • Linden School District has implemented a Grab and Go Program for students who need lunch. This program is for all school age children. Although we have offered several of our recreation buildings for distribution for the convenience of some neighborhoods, the district declined. Therefore, lunches can be picked up at the Linden High School on the Ainsworth St side, gym entrance, School #2 on the West 17th St side and School #5 on the East Curtis St side, rear door.

  • John T. Gregorio Recreation Center seniors who receive Meals on Wheels receive at-home delivery.

What’s exempt from closure and/or open?

  • Daycare Centers for First Responders (EO 110) as of April 1, 2020
  • Supermarkets
  • Pharmacies
  • Gas Stations
  • Liquor stores (must be closed by 8pm)
  • Restaurants and Bars – Take Out /Delivery Service Only. 
  • Linden & Union County Parks are open; however, all playground equipment cannot be used.
  • Mobile Phone Repair Retail Stores – now deemed essential. 
  • Bike Shops for Repair Only – now deemed essential. 
  • Nursery and Garden Centers – now deemed essential.

  • Seniors Who Are Shut In – call the Mayor’s office at 908-474-8493.
  • Report price gouging to the Weights & Measures Division of the County Consumer Affairs Department by email or by phone at 908-527-4787.
  • As per the Governor, please stay home between the hours of 8pm and 5am unless you must be out.
