2023 John T. Gregorio Basketball Camp

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the 2023 John T. Gregorio Basketball Camp.

  • Who: For 3rd through 8th grade, Linden residents only.
  • What: Basketball Camp. Campers with learn basketball fundamentals, ball handling skills, footwork techniques, rebounding, shooting skills, dribbling skills, and offensive and defensive strategies.
  • Where: Linden High School Gymnasium, which is located at 121 West St. Georges Avenue.
  • When: June 26 through June 29.
    • Monday through Wednesday – 9am until 2pm (bring lunch).
    • Thursday – 9am until 12pm.
  • How: Free program, registration required. Registration deadline is June 23, 2023. To view full program description and register online, click here. Mixed Martial Arts

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Mixed Martial Arts, a six week youth program.

  • Who: Ages 5 through 17. Classes are grouped by age range, ages 5 through 10, and ages 11 through 17.
  • What: Mixed Martial Arts, an effective form of self defense. Marital Arts is an art form that tests not only physical strength and endurance, but mental perseverance, determination and patience. This is all through a positive attitude, discipline, and respect towards others and ourselves.
  • Where: John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • When: Six week program. Every Wednesday from July 12 through August 16.
    • Ages 5 through 10, from 5:45pm until 7pm.
    • Ages 11 through 17, from 7pm until 8:15pm.

Summer XC – Track Conditioning Program

  • Who: Open to all incoming Linden High School students, freshman through seniors.
  • What: Summer XC/Track Conditioning Program. The focus of this program is to begin conditioning for the upcoming athletic year. There will be a docus on drills, stretches, training and running. Be sure to bring sneakers, athletic clothing and water!
  • When: 8am until 10am, Monday through Thursday (weather permitting) from July 12 through July 31.
  • Where: Linden Field House at Tiger Stadium, which is located at 700 West Curtis Street.

  • Who: Ages 5 through 17.
  • What: Linden Cheer and Mentor Program directed by Coach Colvin.
  • When: Every Monday and Wednesday from July 5 through August 16, from 5pm until 7pm.
  • Where: Linden Multi-Purpose Center, which is located at 1025 John Street.

A Juneteenth Celebration: The Parade

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Linden Education Association, your teachers, and educational support professionals invite you to attend a Juneteenth celebration: The Parade.

  • What: To start off our Juneteenth celebration, we will be having a caravan parade! Come watch the parade and be a part of Linden’s history as we celebrate freedom. The Parade will be followed by another Juneteenth celebration: The Cookout, which will be held at the Promenade.
  • Where: The lineup will be on East Gibbons Street (next to School #1), and will proceed down North Wood Avenue (straight to the Promenade).
  • When: Saturday, June 17, at 10:30am.
    • Rain Date: Sunday, June 18, at 11:30am.

A Juneteenth Celebration: The Cookout

  • What: A Juneteenth celebration: The Cookout, a day of culture, sharing and learning. The Cookout is an engaging showcase that connects the past to the present. We promote connections through storytelling, music, dance and food. We invite you to attend and interact with all participants! Each participant is partnering with our community and schools to increase awareness of what they do best. This day will be filled with learning experiences that will capture the heart of black history and unify the community.
  • Where: Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade, which is located at 400 North Wood Avenue.
  • When: Saturday, June 17, from 12pm until 4pm.
    • Rain Date: Sunday, June 18, from 1pm until 5pm.

Zoning Board of Adjustment June 12, 2023 Meeting – Cancelled

PLEASE TAKE A NOTICE THAT the City of Linden, Zoning Board of Adjustment’s scheduled meeting on Monday, June 12, 2023 has been cancelled due to an unforeseen illness beyond our control. The next Zoning Board meeting will be held on July 10, 2023, and will include all business that was scheduled to be heard at the June 12, 2023 meeting. We apologize for any inconveniences. Knopf Street Closure

Thank you all for your patience and cooperation while the parking garage at City Hall undergoes a major renovation.

  • Please be advised that Knopf Street between Wood Avenue and Helen Street has been closed to all non-police department traffic. 
  • This includes the parking lot, as well as the newly established on-street angled parking stalls, with the minor exception of tenant access to the rear of the Church and 401 N. Wood Avenue buildings.

Let’s Go Fishing!

Are you interested in learning how to fish, but not really sure where to start? Join NJDEP Fish & Wildlife staff and volunteers for a hands-on workshop that includes everything you need to know to get started!

  • Who: 18 years and older. You must have a valid 2023 New Jersey Freshwater Fishing license to participate.
  • What: Fishing workshop with NJDEP Fish & Wildlife. Participants will learn fishing basics including: fish biology; how to set up equipment; safety practices; bait and tackle choices; how to cast; and fishing regulations. Participants will put their new skills to practice with a fishing experience, and leave the workshop with the knowledge and confidence to head out fishing on their own. All bait, tackle and equipment will be provided.
  • When: Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 10am until 2pm.
  • Where: Wilson Pond, which is located at 1113 Summit Terrace.
