2023 Fall Wrestling Program

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to announce the 2023 Fall Wrestling Program. Our program has produced League and State champions! All skill levels are welcome.

  • Who: For children ages 8 through 18.
  • What: Instruction on basic wrestling techniques and skills to improve one’s body awareness and overall confidence. All participants must have their own wrestling shoes. All skill levels are welcome.
  • When: Program runs from September 19 through November 21, 2023. Practice will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30pm until 8pm .
    • No practice on October 31, November 7 and November 9.
  • Where: McManus Middle School Gymnasium, which is located at 300 Edgewood Road.
  • How: $25 registration fee, plus a $6 insurance fee. All participants must have their own wrestling shoes. Register online here, or register in-person at the John T. Gregorio Center (330 Helen Street) from 9am until 4pm, or at the Linden Multi Purpose Center (1025 John Street) from 9:30am until 7:30pm. All locations accept checks, money orders, Visa and Mastercard. No cash. No refunds once the session begins. For more information, call (908) 474-8600.     • Child’s original birth certificate.
    • Household bill showing proof of residency.
    • Diver’s License or photo ID of parent/guardian signing up their child.

Mixed Martial Arts

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Mixed Martial Arts, a six (6) week youth program.

  • Who: Two age groups: ages 5 through 10, and ages 11 through 17.
  • What: Mixed Martial Arts, an effective form of self defense. Marital Arts is an art form that tests not only physical strength and endurance, but mental perseverance, determination and patience. This is all through a positive attitude, discipline, and respect towards others and ourselves.
  • Where: John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • When: Six week program. Every Wednesday from September 20 through October 25, 2023.
    • Ages 5 through 10, from 5:45pm until 7pm.
    • Ages 11 through 17, from 7pm until 8:15pm.

Kids Canvas Paint!

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Kids Canvas Paint. Due to the popularity of this class, we are offering two dates per month to register your child for the class. Please choose one or the other. There are 15 slots per class and the classes fill quickly. Don’t be left out, register today!

  • Who: For kids ages 5 through 12.
  • What: Kids canvas paint classes. All supplies included. The painting classes are guided with the instructor showing every step. Small color copies of the painting will be handed out to the children for reference. Background music will be available to create a more creative and tranquil atmosphere for the young artists.
  • Where: John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • When: Due to the popularity of this class, after the month of September, we are offering two dates per month to register your child for the class. Please choose one or the other. Each class is from 6pm until 7:30pm.
    • September 19.
    • October 10 or 24.
    • November 14 or 28
    • December 5 or 19.

Beginners Woodshop Program

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer a beginners Woodshop Program.

  • Who: Children must be between the ages of 8 through 12 to participate.
  • What: Beginners Woodshop Program. The instructor will guide participants step-by-step to create a Bird House.
  • Where: John T. Gregorio Center, which is located at 330 Helen Street.
  • When: Mondays, October 2, 16, 23, and 30, from 6pm until 7:30pm.

Youth Arts & Crafts

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer Youth Arts & Crafts, an eight (8) week youth program.

  • Who: Ages 6 and up.
  • What: Have your child enjoy a free art-filled program! Each session will be focused on unique and enjoyable crafts. Let their creativity blossom.
  • Where: Linden Multi-Purpose Center, which is located at 1025 John Street.
  • When: Eight (8) week program on the first and third Thursday of the month, from 3:30pm until 5pm.
    • September 7 and 21.
    • October 5 and 19.
    • November 2 and 16.
    • December 7 and 21.

2023 Fall Little Kickers Clinic

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to offer the 2023 Fall Little Kickers Clinic.

  • Who: Open to all children ages 4 and 5.
  • What: Little Kickers Clinic. All participants must have their own shin guards.
  • Where: Soccer field at Wheeler Park, which is located at 234 West Stimpson Avenue.
  • When: The Clinic will run for eight (8) weeks beginning on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Arrive at the park at 9am.
  • How: Registration deadline is September 1, 2023. Registration fee is $50 for residents, and $60 for non-residents. The registration fee includes a one-time annual $6 insurance fee (if this fee has not already been paid with another program). All participants must have their own shin guards. Register online here. Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, and the Department of Parks & Recreation are pleased to announce the 2023 Fall Soccer League. Instruction and coaching by licensed certified coaches from NASA F.C. affiliated with N.Y. Red Bulls.

  • Who: Open to all children ages 6 through 12.
  • What: Fall Soccer League. All players must have their own shin guards to play. Instruction and coaching by licensed certified coaches from NASA F.C. affiliated with N.Y. Red Bulls.
  • Where: All League games are played at the Wheeler Park Turf Field, which is located at 234 West Stimpson Avenue.
  • When: The League begins on Saturday, September 16, 2023. Games will be played on Saturdays according to team schedule.
  • How: Registration deadline is September 1, 2023. Registration fee is $50 for residents, and $60 for non-residents. Important Reminder from Linden DPW

The Department of Public Works will be closed on Monday, September 4th, in observance of Labor Day. There will be NO trash collection or grass collection this week!

This closure will affect the following schedule changes for the rest of the week:

  • Brown cart – paper & cardboard materials will be collected on Tuesday, September 5th in Districts 1, 2, 3, 9 and 10.
  • Brown cart – paper & cardboard materials will be collected on Wednesday, September 6th in Districts 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.    
  • All Business garbage collection will also be on Wednesday, September 6th.
  • Garbage collection for Districts 1, 2, 3, 9 and 10 will be on Thursday, September 7th.
  • Garbage collection for Districts 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be on Friday, September 8th.
  • There will be NO trash collection or grass collection this week.

Community Impact Festival

Mayor Derek Armstead, the City of Linden, the Department of Parks & Recreation and Communities In Cooperation Inc. present the Community Impact Festival!

  • Who: Fun for all ages!
  • What: Community Impact Festival with music acts including featured artist Nisa F. (the “Janet Jackson of Rap”), a car show, free food, career fair workshops, mind-body wellness activities, community resources, games and prizes, face painting and convenient DMV services (from 10am until 2pm).
  • Where: Woodrow Wilson Memorial Pond Park (1100-1198 Summit Terrace).
  • When: Saturday, September 9, from 11am until 4pm.
    • Rain Date: September 10, 2023.
    • Please note: DMV services will proceed as scheduled on September 9, from 10am until 2pm, rain or shine.

  • Who: Anyone that wants to streamline their DMV needs.
  • What: MVC on wheels! Providing a range of convenient DMV services: Driver’s License Renewal, Registration Renewal (please note, no title work available at the mobile unit), Initial Exam Permit (no testing conducted at the mobile unit), Disability Placard, Boat Stickers, add Veteran designation to license, Non-Driver ID, and name change.
