Linden Department of Parks and Recreation Holds Olympics Opening Ceremony
In the spirit of the Olympics, Linden Department of Parks and Recreation held their own Olympics Opening Ceremony on July 20th at Tiger Stadium. Both Summer Day Camp and Playground programs participated. Each site selected a country to represent in the Opening Ceremony. Countries selected were United States, Greece, Australia, Brazil, France, Canada, Cuba, Liberia, and Italy. Each site created a banner to represent their country as they walked across the track to the delight of parents and community members.
Over 100 youth between the ages of 5 and 18 participated in the ensuing track meet. The track meet consisted of several events, including the 55 Meter Dash, 100 Meter Dash, and Softball Throw. All participants received medals for their efforts, and participants who placed earned gold, silver, or bronze medals. All participants and their families had an enjoyable experience, many of which stated that the event was a great opportunity to reconnect with others that they may not have seen since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Summer Day Camp and Playground programs will continue their Summer Olympics theme with the Annual Craft and Talent Show, which will take place on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, 6pm at the Raymond Wood Bauer Promenade. The rain date is Thursday, August 5, 2021.
