2022 Annual Easter Egg Hunt!

In celebration of Easter, Mayor Armstead, the Mayor’s Youth Commission, the Department of Public Property and the Linden Department of Parks and Recreation are hosting the Annual Citywide Easter Egg Hunt!

  • Who: For children ages 12 and under.
  • When: April 16th, 2022 @ 11am sharp!
  • Where: @ Wilson Park by the Sumit Terrace side, behind the High School Academy Building.
  • How: Just show up! Please bring your own Easter basket or a bag will be provided.

Free Income Tax Help

The City of Linden Department of Parks & Recreation announces that they are partnering with AARP Tax-Aide to offer free income tax help to all Linden residents. All volunteers are IRS certified and can address most issues asked by their clients.

Appointments are needed. Appointments are on Tuesdays, starting February 15th through April 12th, at 9:30am, 10am, 10:30am or 11am at the John T. Gregorio Center, 330 Helen Street. To schedule an appointment, call 908-474-8600 between 9am and 4pm, Monday through Friday.

Participants must bring a copy of last year’s tax return, Social Security card, photo ID, children’s Social Security cards, all W-2’s, 1099s’ and any other documents necessary to complete their tax return.

Winter Recreation Registration

Registration has begun for the City of Linden Department of Parks & Recreation winter season. The department offers a variety of classes for youth, adults and senior citizens, in such areas as soccer, wrestling, karate, art, ceramics, arts & crafts, line dancing, Zumba, knitting, complete fitness and more.

Thanksgiving Grab & Go 2021

Mayor Derek Armstead, The City of Linden, and The Department of Parks & Recreation’s Thanksgiving Grab and GO Dinner on Saturday November 20,2021 served approximately one hundred people. The staff at the Linden Multipurpose Center prepared, cooked and served a delicious hot meal & dessert to members of the community who attended. LMPC Tutoring Program

The Parks & Recreation Department is now offering tutoring at the LMPC.

Purpose

  • To assist students from elementary to high school who need extra help beyond the classroom.
  • To give more one-on-one and personal time to help students succeed in the classroom.
  • To provide intervention in the form of tutoring and mentoring to address poor or declining student performance before it reaches a point where recovery would be extremely difficult or pose a significant challenge.
  • To provide alternative approaches to conveying concepts for students whose predominant learning styles are not adequately addressed in the classroom.

Details

  • The tutoring program will be held on Mondays from 4pm until 5:30pm in the community room at the Linden Multi-Purpose Center.
  • The tutors are students from Kean University.
  • Tutor and student attendance will be taken every session.
  • The program has started and will be run throughout the school year until final testing begins.
  • This program is free of charge to all Linden resident students.
  • This program will be monitored by recreation leader Rooks Crawford.

Expectations Of Students

  • Participating students commit to attend sessions, to be punctual, reliable and well behaved.
  • Not to miss sessions without notifying the program coordinator well in advance.
  • Students are expected to have their work ready and assignments clearly defined when arriving.

Adult Zumba Classes

The Department of Parks & Recreation is offering an adult Zumba class for ages 13 and older.

  • When: September 29th through December 8th, from 6:30pm until 7:30pm
  • Where: John T Gregorio Center
  • How: The fee is $50. Registration is required and must be done at least one week before the start of class.
