Road Opening Permits
A Road Opening Permit (ROP) is required by the Linden Engineering Department for excavation within the Street Right-of-Way along all Municipal Roads throughout the City. Permits along County and State Roads are under Union County and NJDOT jurisdictions, respectively. This permit is mainly used by utility companies; however, it is also used by contractors and plumbers for the construction or replacement of sewer lines. There is a fee for the permit.

Planning permission or developmental approval refers to the approval needed for construction or expansion (including significant renovation) in some jurisdictions. It is usually given in the form of a building permit (or construction permit).

Railroad Parking Permits
The City of Linden issues a three (3) month Railroad Station Parking Permit at the beginning of each quarter. Permit Parking (three months/quarterly) is allowed only on Southbound/West Elizabeth Ave side of the Linden Railroad Station in the non-numbered spaces.
